Roger Dubuis | Merlin the Enchanter
In a world of mechanical precision, few watches capture the imagination as vividly as Merlin the Enchanter. Here, legend is not simply referenced—it is sculpted in gold, glass, diamonds, and light. Each glance reveals a new angle, a new layer, a new whisper of Arthurian magic.
Hexagonal Diamonds
Within its 45 mm pink gold case lies a three-dimensional dialscape built from 56 sculpted columns, ranging in height from 0.2 mm to 3.7 mm. These columns are crafted from a medley of materials—glass, enamel, rhodium-plated gold, and pink gold—and crowned with hexagonal diamonds in an “invisibility setting,” effecting a shimmering, ethereal depth impossible to ignore.
Twelve micro-sculpted knights, each standing about 6 mm tall and cast in pink gold, guard the palace. Every piece is individually carved: swords, claws, armor details—all given character with patinas and fine engraving.
Movement & Precision
At its core beats the RD821 Monobalancier calibre, an in-house automatic movement certified by the Poinçon de Genève. It comprises 172 components, runs at 4 Hz, and provides a 48-hour power reserve. The movement is decorated with 14 distinct finishing techniques—signifying a level of artisanship as refined as the dial above. The 16.87 mm thick case includes a sapphire ring under the bezel, giving a view into the dial’s layered structure from the side. Water resistance is modest at 30 m.
Rarity & Legacy
This is a watch of exclusivity: only 28 pieces will exist, available exclusively through official Roger Dubuis boutiques.
Its release price is reported at CHF 336,000 (excluding tax)—a figure that matches its status as a horological artwork.
Merlin the Enchanter is not for everyone. It is for the collector who demands drama as much as mechanics. It is for the wearer who wishes their watch to tell a story—not just a time. In this piece, Roger Dubuis weaves myth and mastery, proving once again their command of Hyper Horology.
