Sotheby’s to Present $400 Million Auction in New York
This November, Sotheby’s New York will stage a landmark auction valued at more than $400 million. The sale, titled Leonard A. Lauder: Collector, will inaugurate Sotheby’s new global headquarters at the Breuer Building on Madison Avenue.
The centerpiece is Gustav Klimt’s Portrait of Elisabeth Lederer (1914–16), appearing at auction for the first time with an estimate of $150 million. Two additional Klimt landscapes — Blooming Meadow and Forest Slope in Unterach at the Attersee — further strengthen the offering.
Also featured is Edvard Munch’s Sankthansnatt Johannisnacht (Mittsommarnacht) (St. John’s Night), alongside six bronzes by Henri Matisse and works by Pablo Picasso, Agnes Martin, and Claes Oldenburg & Coosje van Bruggen.
Bringing together 24 works from the collection of Leonard A. Lauder, this auction marks one of the most significant sales of 2025.
